Development of Food Packaging Paper Materials
Development of Food Packaging Paper Materials
In the global environment of sustainable development, reducing plastic packaging and using renewable materials have gradually become a general trend of the industry. This undoubtedly creates a good development space for the paper industry. Paper food packaging materials are widely used in food packaging because of their good processing strength and processing performance which meet the needs of environmental protection and sustainable development. With the progress of science and technology, there are many detection technologies for the safety detection of paper food packaging materials. In recent years, with the initiative and promotion of the government, many paper packaging enterprises have devoted themselves to the research and development of new paper packaging. Although the initial cost of research and development is high and the popularity is limited, these new paper packages will have a positive impact in the long run.
Nowadays, green consumption is gradually approaching people's daily life. There are more and more kinds of green food in the market, including grains, vegetables, fruits, milk, drinks and so on. Food paper packaging must strictly comply with the green packaging standards. The use of paper packaging in green food is very common. A large amount of whitening paper is used in food packaging. Most whitening paper is treated with fluorescent brightener. Although it bleaches fibers, it has great toxic effect on human body. Many green foods are packaged in colored wrapping paper. Although the color ink is printed on the side and outside of the food packaging paper, the printed colored paper is bundled and stacked together. The non-printed surface of each type of wrapping paper will contact with ink which can easily cause food contamination.
Although China has provisions on the raw material and hygiene indicators of food packaging paper, there is no cardboard variety specially used for food packaging. Many food boxes use grey board as material. However, in the actual production and post-processing, paper packaging materials will be processed according to the product packaging design. Potentially dangerous chemicals such as whitening agents, curing agents and fungicides may be added during the processing process. If they are transferred to food, they will pose a threat to human health. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a simple, accurate and rapid analysis method to ensure the safety of packaging materials.
The chemical composition of paper packaging materials is complex. Since the relative content is low, it is difficult to determine by conventional chemical analysis. At present, instruments are mainly used to analyze and detect chemicals in paper packaging materials. Commonly used detection techniques include gas chromatography and liquid chromatography. In order to improve the richness and precision of analysis content, chromatography combined with multiple detectors, atomic absorption spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry are often used to detect trace elements such as mercury, pickaxe, lead, and chromium.
